All great business owners and bakers become successful because of their mission to chase their own happiness. Sophie, owner of Caprices by Sophie, has a little story that goes like this: "I quit my job as a fancy corporate lawyer in France. Then I moved to NYC to pursue a successful career in banking and then said nah I am going to become a KICK ASS french pastry chef in brooklyn and let my creativity in the kitchen reach the heart and stomach of all" (quoted by me but I envision her saying something along these lines).

Caprices by Sophie is a cute little french pastry shop located on N 6th street between Bedford Avenue and Berry street. As you walk into Caprices, you are hit with the sight of pastries at every angle. Look to your left...the goods. Look straight...the goods. Look up...the goods. Well played Sophie, well played. They had just opened so there glass container was not filled to their normal maximum but their pastries range from croissants, to cakes, to breads, to gluten free pastries, to vegan pastries, to cupcakes, to pies, to eclairs, to mile high cakes called croquembouche (large circular pastries filled with nougatine circles piled high together to create cake designs...people order this for their weddings) and many many more.

All pastries are made from scratch every single day and made on the premises with a focus on organic, natural and local ingredients.
Not only does Sophies have cute indoor seating but even cuter outdoor seating with an wall full of weeds that is the perfect instagrammable spot to take pictures.

This will be the second time I am visiting this bakery but the first time actually grabbing something to eat and drink. The first time I went to Caprices was on a Sunday afternoon and like most things in Brooklyn on a sunday, the bakery was POPPIN. (I live by the motto that if it is not poppin then it is not good). The line was pretty long and every seat in the joint was taken and though it had a lot to offer, I needed to sit and get work done but I vowed to be back because the atmosphere was so enticing.

Definition of Poppin: Happening, busy, popular, lit

The second time I went was on Wednesday morning at 8am and the bakery, yes you guessed it, POPPIN. The line was about 6 people long with only one female counter worker, cashier and barista literally SLAYING orders. I have never seen ONE worker control a line with literally 0 anxiety about their actually being a line. Shout out to that strong independent worker who don't need no man or other coworker. You must take after your hustler of a boss.

What did I order:

I ordered the Gluten Free Dairy free Raspberry Chocolate Bread. You could taste the love that went into making this bread. From the toasted and sweetened almond slivers decorated on top and throughout, to the abundant amount of chunky chocolate chips that pack a crunch, this bread left me in a complete daze the entire day. It was extremely soft and moist and possessed this super addicting taste that made it hard to take the last bite. The raspberry flavor truly shined through and complemented the bread really well. I also ordered a Iced Matcha Latte with almond milk which was really good as well. I love going to cafe's or bakeries that slay the barista game and require no addition of a sweetener.

Price: $8. Just remember this place provides the highest QUALITY of assorted pastries and you cannot put a value on that.
