The Brooklyn Standard is SOO not Standard

This vegan-friendly establishment located on 188 Nassau Ave is your one-stop shop for coffee, ice cream, bagels, fresh juices, cakes, cookies, sandwiches and so much more!

This local business focus is on producing homemade food with quality ingredients, stocking their store with local food products and being extremely involved in the surrounding Brooklyn community. The owners do exactly what I strive to do: support other small local businesses. Some local businesses they support and sell include: Odd Fellows Ice Cream, The Bagel Smith Bagels (review of their bagels is up!), Van Leeuwn Ice Cream, Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Brooklyn McClure's Pickles and Vegan Treats Bakery to just name a few.
As you walk into The Brooklyn Standard, you will probably be overwhelmed with all the options! If you look to your right, you have a menu stacked with vegan breakfast that is served all day including a Cali Bagel with tofu cream cheese, cherry tomatoes, basil, jalapenos and tempeh bacon or soy sausage (sounds AMAZING), a soup of the day, a variety of salads including their vegan "chicken" salad and vegan potato salad as well as a whole menu dedicated to vegan sandwiches including a Tofu Rueben and Jerked Seitan. Options on options on options.

If you look to your left, you are met by a coffee counter that is stacked with stevia packets and several types of milks including macadamia, almond, soy, oat, hemp and hazelnut. The milk-alt options just makes it WAY more enticing to purchase a medium or large hot or ice Stumptown Roasters coffee.

As you continue to explore The Brooklyn Standard, you will be hit by a GLORIOUS refrigerator that has an amazing spread of GIGANTIC vegan cookies on top (peanut butter, banana oatmeal cookie, chocolate chip cookies, ginger molasses and double chocolate chip cookie). I tried their peanut butter cookie and it was so SOFT, chewy and had nice sugar crystals on top.

In their fridge, they have treats sourced from the Vegan Treat Bakery that includes chocolate cake, carrot cake, a variety of whoopie pies and cannolis. I had their pumpkin whoopie pie and OH MY G-D it was AMAZING! The cream was about 2 inches thick with the perfect amount of creaminess and sweetness.

The cake itself was so moist and soft and had a bomb pumpkin flavor. I have never seen a whoopie pie that big with that much filling. Man it was so good!

Now if you can make it passed all the amazing looking cakes, cookies and pies (which I did not make it past the first few times), you will hit their fresh-pressed juice and smoothie bar.
The bar is run by the SWEETEST workers who all have great smiles at the crack of dawn!
I have tried their large juice with apples, oranges, grapefruit and ginger and it was so so good! The sweetness and acidity of the fruits combined with the ginger after taste just made for a great combination. This morning I also tried the apple, lemon, carrot, beets and ginger juice. The beets offered an AWESOME pink/red color. I have never had beets in a juice and I was pleasantly surprised with the taste.
Every morning, one woman is running the show (who run the world!?) and to say that she knows every customers name is not.a.joke.
The Brooklyn Standard is LITERALLY changing the bodega game with a heavy focus on customer service, quality sourced ingredients, housing local business products and starting Brooklyn-ers day with a smile, laugh and full stomach.
